Be Realistic

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

Now is the time that most people have given up on their New Year Resolutions and for good reason. Those people that have given up already have done so because of the high or better phrased UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS that people have put upon themselves.

People that make their New Year Resolutions come up with timelines, deadlines and expectations that a seasoned athlete might, and I say might make upon themselves. This is something I see each and every year and this year is no exception at my personal training studio as the people have filed in after Jan. 5th looking to transform themselves like the people on this idiotic, harmful show; “The Biggest Loser”.

Well the people on the Biggest Loser etc. etc. But how can you the average person expect to achieve what these people on the show achieve? Unless of course you are going to devote 8 hours per day, every day for 90-120 days to your fitness goals! Now if you have that time availability, resolve and determination to spend that time of time and energy solely on that purpose then there is no reason why you cannot transform yourself and sculpt your physique any way you want.

However, if you are working out a total of 4 hours per week, vs. 8 hours per day and wonder why you are not getting the same results and become frustrated then we need to conduct a few logic classes instead of personal training sessions, wouldn’t you say?

One must understand the “Long and Winding Road” of achieving and maintaining a great fitness level and the side effects of doing so are a great outer appearance of physical well being. Some of my clients are constantly looking for the magic bullet, the quick weight loss, the fast reductions in inches and I say the same thing all the time and forever, “Good Luck with that, let me know how it works out for you”.

I already know the only lasting way to achieve average, good, great, or excellent health and fitness levels.
Use the (3) major principles of Resistance Training, Cardiovascular Endurance, and Nutrition in synergy with each other to achieve your individual level of acceptance for where you want to be.
Now depending on how you want to change your lifestyle to meet the requirements of what your goal is; if you want a body and fitness level of someone that works out 6 days a week and eats all the right foods and you work out 3 days a week, and eat whatever you come across at the time then,, “Good Luck with that, let me know how it works out for you”.
