13.1 Mile Race Results

To those that participated in the Fort Lauderdale A1A 13.1 Mile Race better known as a ½ Marathon, (although there is nothing ½ about it to those that run it),
However, I digress; to those that ran, jogged, walked, limped and struggled through the 13.1 Mile course today- I congratulate you!

I want to remind everyone that 32 people showed up for the 1st Training Session 12 weeks ago to prepare for this race and as the weeks went on the number whittled down slowly as it always does. Things happen, life interferes, and then the mental confidence wanes as time goes on and perhaps next time those that did not join us will find the mental fortitude and the time to continue the training and then actually negotiate the 13 miles along the Atlantic Ocean as those of you did today.

For those that accomplished the ½ Marathon for the 1st Time, if you never do another organized race in your life you know that you did a ½ Marathon and no one can take that away from you for the rest of your life and I am proud of each and every one of you.

The lead group of faster runners was led by Beth again with an unofficial time of 1:43 some how she manages with injuries to duplicate if not better her time.

Rori again is my hero as I stepped up the pace to meet the 2 hours 30 minute mark as said I would, Rori found her way next to me again around mile 7 and stayed with me until the finish, and she struggled but came in at 2:30!

The 1st Timers did wonderful with everyone coming in between 2:30 and 3:05! Excellent job from everyone.

As frequently happens in Sports, our team suffered an injury from one of our top performers, Arianny suffered a stress fracture on her foot and was unable to finish the Full Marathon, and she stopped at 22.6 miles as the pain was too much for her to bear. She will find out the extent of the injury and keep me posted, Ari is a great competitor and I am sure after this minor set back she will be back with a Vengeance and no Bernie this does not mean she owes me 50 Push Ups every time she comes to class, injuries do not count!

Overall it was great weather and a great run by everyone and enjoy the spoils of your hard work and the PerFit Fitness Family will be taking the month of March off to relax, recover and plan our next Group Event, think Dutahlon May 3rd, stay tuned….

Hello Everyone,

The race starts at 6:00am this year so we will meet just north of the Broward Center for Performance Arts as we have in the past. We will meet at the fountain between the Center and the portable toilets.

I would ask everyone to wear their PerFit or AliBootcamp T-shirts for the race, if you want to wear other running gear then at least have your T-shirt available for photos.

We will meet at 5:30 to warm up, stretch, and use the portable toilets prior to the race.

We will take one group photo prior to the race promptly at 5:50 to give everyone time that is running for time to position themselves accordingly at the starting line.

The rest of us will go to the end of the starting area and start all together from that point.

I will be setting a pace for 2 hours and 30 minutes and I expect the majority of the people that have been training to come in around that time.

Some of you will start to pick up your pace and go ahead of the pace I will be setting and that is perfectly fine and encouraged, of course, you want to do your best.

Now after I finish with the group that crosses the finish line at 2:30 I will be going back to bring all of those in our group in, like Marines do, we never leave anyone behind, it is our team and teammates bring the others along.

Those that finish can relax and recover as we wait for the rest of our team to finish. I expect everyone to be finished within 3 hours or so and after everyone has finished we will take the group photo after the race.

After the race and being shuttled back to the parking lots we will then meet at Jack’s Diner in Hollywood for the post race brunch, eat whatever you like and enjoy it-You will deserve it after the many weeks of training and hard work to accomplish the goal of 13.1 miles!

We will plan on being at Jack’s at 10:00 am for breakfast to celebrate the culmination of the past 12 weeks of trails and tribulations of training and the race itself and as always for my group there will be a 10% discount on all checks.

September is a very important time of the fitness year for a lot of people. You see this is what I call the “Corridor of Challenges” meaning from Labor Day through Christmas. People stop training on a consistent basis for a plethora of reasons.

Labor Day sets the tone for taking a break in the routine and then before you know it Halloween is here with all the candy, treats and more excuses not to continue your exercise routine.

The big year-end holidays kick in the day after Halloween and the games begin. Thanksgiving and Christmas. Of course, you guessed it that is when the major excuses come out on why people cannot find time to exercise on a regular basis and pull out the Ol’ “I’ll start the first of the year!”

Understanding that everyone is busy I suggest to my clientele to reduce their frequency and time. For example instead of working out 3 times a week for 1 hour each workout, try twice a week for 45 minutes each workout.

By keeping the habit of regulating some time during their busy week to exercise during the busiest time of the year they can always find time to stick to the commitment they made to live the healthy lifestyle.
